"A Luxurious Retreat"
...A few years ago, Ron's daughter Heidi came to the Rusty Parrot to visit her father but ended up staying on as the lodge's only massage therapist. Her business quickly grew to become Jackson's first spa. To make room for the Body Sage Day Spa, two guest rooms and another small space were transformed into treatment rooms, bringing guest room down to 31...
...After my downtown stroll, I couldn't resist the urge for an afternoon of pampering spa treatments, so I arranged for a two-and-a-half hour session with Lily, one of the Body Sage's licensed massage therapists. She walked me through my selected treatments, explaining the benefits of each, and helped me choose aromatherapy scents for parts of my session.
I began with a steam bath scented with eucalyptus oil to help treat my cold under one of the spa's unique steam canopies. This cloth cover created a personal tent as it trapped the steam around my body. As I lay there while the steam cleansed my pores and, ultimately, my sinuses, I almost drifted off to sleep. The atmosphere Lily created made it easy to do so.
Natural earth tones combined with mood lighting, candles, and meditative music encourage total relaxation. Unlike most spas, the rooms at the Body Sage are spacious and open, not cramped and claustrophobic. And they are located away from the main areas, so outside noise is never a problem.
Next up was a detoxifying seaweed wrap, which I can only describe as a green, somewhat slimy concoction. As Lily applied it to my skin with a paintbrush, the warm liquid felt much like a glaze; the wrap happened when my body was encased in an opaque sheet, almost like plastic wrap, which was followed with blankets and a heat compress to keep me warm. For 20 minutes, my skin relished the benefits of this cocoon, since only my feet and head were exposed.
Instead of a traditional therapeutic massage, I chose a hot stones massage for a more intense treatment. These water-polished stones, straight from the Snake River, are used in conjunction with the therapist's hands. Lily placed some of them along my spine, while using other stones to massage my arms and back. She did the same on my legs before I flipped over so she could then focus on my head and neck. The added heat and pressure from the stones were fabulous, helping add another dimension to what would otherwise be a regular massage.
To finish it off, Lily prepared a salt glow with rosemary mint scent to exfoliate and polish my skin. Crystals harvested from the Great Salt Lake made my skin soft and smooth for several days....
